What are the three gaps of the piston rings?
Piston Ring Three Gap Are Ring Gap (End Gap), Axial Gap (Lateral Gap), Radial Gap (Back Gap).
Ring gap (end gap) is the gap between the two ends of the piston ring. Axial clearance (lateral clearance) is the clearance formed between the piston ring and the groove plane. Radial clearance (back clearance) that is, the piston and piston ring installed in the cylinder, the gap between the back of the piston ring and the piston ring groove. Because the three gap value of different cars may be different, so the comparison of the three gap value of the piston ring should see their own models of the piston ring gap standard value table.
Piston Ring Three Gap Detection Method:
1. End clearance: place the piston ring flat on the piston, then push the piston to the top TDC of the engine, and measure the clearance at the opening of the piston ring using a thickness gauge.
2. Side clearance: Remove the piston ring from the piston, and then press its side into the piston ring groove and fix it with your hand, and measure the clearance between the piston ring and the piston ring groove with a feeler ruler with the other hand.
3. Back gap: insert the tail of the vernier caliper into the piston ring groove, measure the depth value of the ring groove and record it, then use the vernier caliper to measure the value of the piston ring cross section, subtract the value of the piston ring cross section from the depth value of the ring groove.
