Automobile idle solenoid valve is an executive component of idle control system, mainly used to control or adjust idle speed, ensure engine emissions standards (requirements) and stable engine operation, maintain the engine idle speed minimum (within the specified range), so as to effectively reduce fuel consumption.

By-pass air idle control system can be divided into solenoid valve type idle control valve, stepping electric model, rotary solenoid valve type, duty cycle type, mechanical type, etc.



Classification By Control


The idle speed control system is mainly composed of ECU, sensor and actuator. Idle speed control system according to the development so far, there are mainly two kinds: throttle direct action type, bypass air type.

Throttle direct action: control idle intake volume by changing the minimum throttle opening of the actuator.

By-pass air: through the by-vent air duct, the actuator controls the amount of air flowing through the idle air duct.
 


(1) Idle Solenoid Valve On The Vehicle Inspection

Start the engine during inspection and let it idle.

For stepper motor type idle solenoid valve, a "buzzing" sound should be issued within a short time after engine flameout. (Motor opening to maximum)

For the pulse solenoid valve type idle electronic control valve, when the engine is idle, remove its wire harness plug, then the idle speed should change. Above check, if there is abnormal, it indicates that idle solenoid valve or electric control part of the fault.
 


(2) Idle Solenoid Valve Inspection

Step motor type idle solenoid valve, usually there are 2 to 4 groups of electromagnetic coil, its resistance is about 10Ωto 30Ω, inspection in the socket respectively with a multimeter measurement of the resistance of the electromagnetic coil, its value should meet the requirements, and there shall be no short circuit or break, otherwise the solenoid valve should be replaced.

For the pulse solenoid type idle solenoid valve, there is only one set of solenoid coil, its resistance is about 10Ωto 15Ω.

Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the coil on its socket and check for short circuit or break. If abnormal, the solenoid valve should be replaced.
